Course:  Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology

General Requirements

 

 

                        Attendance and Tardiness:    School policy sets the

                                                                        dropped from the class.

                                                                        Tardies are discouraged

                                                                        as they interrupt the

                                                                        class and cause the

                                                                        student to miss infor-

Grading Policy:                                                                                                                                                          

Tests, and homework

assignments will be

given point value.

Tests will comprise  

50% of your grade with

the other 50% being the 

Case Study essays.  

Grade Scale:           

90% - A, 80% - B, 70% - C,

60% - D, < 60% - F.

                                   

                        Exams:                                    There will be a formal mid-

                                                                        term and final exam.

                                                                        These will be graded on a

                                                                        curve determined by the

                                                                        individual class.

How to Take a Telecourse.  Read the Preface in its entirety.

Alejandro Mamani: Culture and Personality Lesson and Video 6

 

The Yucatec Maya: Marriage and the Family Lesson and Video 13

 

The Aymara: Social Stratification Lesson and Video 17

 

Case studies are to be typewritten essays responding to the section at the beginning of each study guide chapter Overview, titled: As you view the program, look for: Each essay should be well developed.  Plan to write a minimum 100 words per bullet.  We will then meet and discuss your completed essays.

Even though I am not going to give you point credit for workbook chapter assignments, it would be to your benefit to complete the work in the study guide for the telecourse.  This will be of great help in preparing you for the tests.  Our discussions will revolve around the case studies.  I will not be lecturing the course content.  That is the purpose of the Faces of Culture tapes.
